Laura Literary Awards Conditions of Entry 2022

Please read conditions of entry carefully.  No email entries accepted in 2022

Sections:  Junior Prose: Please read carefully as an extra section has been added. 


Section 1 – OPEN   A short story up to 1500 words, Prize $200
Section 2 – YOUNG ADULT (13-18 yrs) A short story up to 1200 words, Prize $50
Section 3a) – JUNIOR (11-12 yrs) A short story up to 800 words, Prize $25                                                    Section 3b) – JUNIOR (9-10 yrs) A short story up to 800 words, Prize $25                                                Section 4 – JUNIOR PRIMARY (5-8 yrs) A short story up to 500 words, Prize $15

The CJ Dennis Poetry Awards:

Poem up to 60 lines for all sections

Section 5 – OPEN POETRY, Prize $200
Section 6 – OPEN BUSH POETRY, Prize $200
Section 7 – YOUNG ADULT POETRY (13-18 yrs), Prize $50
Section 8 – JUNIOR POETRY (9-12 yrs), Prize $25
Section 9 – JUNIOR PRIMARY POETRY(5-8 yrs), Prize $15

    1. There is NO limit to the number of entries, but each one must have its own entry form.
    2. Do not post original manuscripts, we will not return entries. All entries other than winners will be destroyed.
    3. An entry form must accompany every entry. Author’s name must not appear on the manuscript, only on the entry form.
    4. Entries must include 3 copies of the titled manuscript for the judging panel, double spaced on single-sided pages with 2cm margins and size 12 font.
    5. Free choice of subject.
    6. Work must be original and previously unpublished
      (publication does not include school magazines or newsletters but includes self-published work, oral presentations in a public place or radio broadcast).
    7. Entry fee of $10 must accompany each entry in the OPEN sections, regardless of age. Cheques to be payable to Rocky River ‘Riters OR direct transfer to BSB 105-049 ACC 032631740. Please use the entrant’s initial and surname as reference on direct deposits and send confirmation email.
    8. Fees are forfeited if they do not fulfill conditions.
    9. STUDENT entries – no entry fee is required and entry form needs to be signed by parent/guardian/teacher to verify that the entry is the author’s own original work.
    10. Closing date is Friday 6th May 2022.
    11. Authors retain copyright over their work but authorise and license the Rocky River ‘Riters: to publish entries in any Rocky River ‘Riters publication, in newspapers, and radio to promote the Laura Literary Awards, for 12 months after receipt of entry.
    12. To produce a booklet for the promotion of the Awards, and for sale, without payment to the authors. Notification will be given to authors if work is selected
    13. Rocky River ‘Riters reserves the right to not award prizes in any section at the discretion of the judges.
    14. Winners will be personally notified, and Email copies of their entries requested.
    15. Winners names will be  publicly announced on Saturday 13th August 2022 at a presentation function.
    16. Winner’s names will be available from the Rocky River ‘Riters website from 13th August 2022.
    17. In the event of a dispute arising regarding the interpretation of these conditions, the decision of the Rocky River ‘Riters shall be final and binding on all parties.
    18. The Rocky River ‘Riters will take all reasonable care with material submitted but will not accept responsibility for loss while in transit or custody.
