Rocky River ‘Riters’ reading for December was free choice, with members reporting good readings from the break. Monty Smith, OAM, made a good list for us including “March Hares & Monkeys Uncles” and “Bees Knees & Barmy Armies” by Harry Oliver and Costa’s World by Costa Georgiadis. The reading for February is The Tattooist of Auschwiz by Heather Morris.

Members choose new words and quotes from readings they do in the month starting again next month.

Rocky River ‘Riters’ newest book, Reflections, is available by contacting our secretary, or from Reflections in Crystal Brook, the Information Centre in Laura, or SFDC in Gladstone, for $15.

Each month there is a writing challenge to members to write about the topic for the following month’s meeting. This challenge is open to anyone who wishes to enter. The topic is given and a piece needs to be written to that topic before next meeting. If you wish to enter, please write prose or poetry to the topic and send to our secretary at pattoomer@gmail.com before March 9th. The challenge for February is to write about “Salesperson”.

We are planning another editing workshop as part of our programme for 2022 to take place in April.

The Laura Literary Awards book of winners and runners up 2021 is available from Rocky River ‘Riters, or the above shops, for $15.

Sadly, I must mourn the loss of a great contributer to the Laura Literary Awards, Dean Hansen. He approached us to start a new category of Bush Poetry, which he made himself available to judge each year, and personally contributed this section’s awards.

Entries are now being taken for the 2022 Laura Literary Awards. Closing Date for this year’s competition is May 6th. Entry forms are available from our website.

Rocky River ‘Riters’ meetings are in Gladstone the second Friday of every month. Please contact us for meeting information.

The creative writing meetings are being held in Crystal Brook on the 4th Wednesday each month at 6:30 pm. Please contact us for meeting information. The next session is Wednesday February 23rd.
