Rocky River ‘Riters’ reading for April was “The Great Alone” by Kristen Hannah. The book for May is personal choice.
Members choose new words and phrases from readings they do in the month. Words included quackle, interregnum hirsute, trug, mondegreen, moot, mountebank, limerence, lacuna and jacluferous. Phrases included “You may not write every day. You can always edit a bad page. You cannot edit a blank page.”, “Owl light replaces daylight as Autumn becomes vow-silent as promises to nature are kept.” and “The idea of returning to that world and of entering into daily competition with other underpaid, overdriven drudges striving fruitlessly to apply a dilute coating of culture to the unresponsive surface of unwilling students had little attraction.”
